ABOUT THE BOOK
The 7th Edition of the book has been restructured according to the "Competency based curriculum of NMC regulations on "Graduate Medical Education, 2019" The book focuses on required clinical competencies for diagnosis of common
childhood disease problems. The thrust areas are history taking, methods of clinical examination, analysis of clinical information so as to reach a provisional diagnosis and making differential diagnosis with reasoning. All these are "must know" areas for both undergraduate
and postgraduate students of paediatrics.
It is needless to emphasize that appropriate clinical approach to diagnosis by elicitation of history and methodical examination helps to build a better trust and confidence between the doctor and the patient/parents and narrows down list of laboratory investigations. This book caters this eternal fact of clinical paediatrics
Common paediatric cases under various systems have been presented in a "bullet-point manner complemented by pictures and diagrams for easy interpretation.
An important attraction of the book is "Some Frequently Asked Questions in each chapter with specific point-wise answers. Such presentation makes the book more comprehensive and thorough; and facilitates better preparedness of the students in the examination / assessment.
The addition of the chapters on "Some Instruments and items of Paediatric use", "Interpretation of some Laboratory Reports" and "Reading X-ray Plates" will help the students in facing viva-voce.
Some texts of the book have been printed with smaller font-sized words indicating "nice to know" areas mainly for the postgraduate students and advanced undergraduate ones.
• As this is a clinical book it does not deal with the therapeutic protocols in details, and students are advised to read standard text books in this regard.
